Meet Janu Shabbir Khan- The Man Behind the Journey

From a Tuk-Tuk Driver in Jaipur to Welcoming Travellers from Around the World

Every journey has a beginning. Mine started on the streets of Jaipur, long before I imagined where it might take me.

In 2002, I began working as a tuk-tuk driver. I met travelers from different countries, heard their stories and helped them discover my city. At the time, I didn’t know that these everyday interactions would shape my future.

I had no big office, no large marketing team and no grand business plan. What I had was a willingness to work hard, treat people honestly and build relationships that lasted beyond a single trip.

One traveler recommended me to another. Those travelers told their friends. Slowly, one connection became many, and a small beginning grew into Janu Private Tours.

Looking back, I realize I wasn't just building a business. I was actually building something that people could trust…

From One Tuk-Tuk to Thousands of Stories and Connections

What started on the streets of Jaipur has grown into a journey shared with thousands of travelers.

Every milestone means more to me because it represents the people who trusted us, travelled with us and recommended us to others.

From Showing Jaipur to Seeing the World Through a Traveller’s Eyes…

Over 24+ years, I’ve had the privilege of welcoming thousands of travelers to India. But I also wanted to understand the world beyond my own doorstep.

I’ve travelled to more than 65 countries, meeting people, experiencing different cultures, and seeing what makes a traveller feel welcome in an unfamiliar place.

And somewhere along the way, I began to understand something most important. When you’re far from home, the smallest things can mean the most:

Someone who answers your curious questions honestly.

A person who arrives when you expect in this unfamiliar place.

Someone who listens instead of making decisions for you.

The reassurance that you can ask for help without feeling uncomfortable.

These experiences literally changed the way I looked at tourism. I began to see every journey not just from the perspective of the person organizing it, but from the perspective of the person trusting someone else with their time, money and holiday plans.

Travelling the world taught me that good hospitality isn't about making big promises. It's about making people feel that they're in good hands…

For Me-Every Traveller Deserves to Feel Heard, Not Just Guided.

As Janu Private Tours grew, one thing mattered more to me than anything else: I never wanted growth to come at the cost of the personal relationships that made it possible.I wanted travellers to feel heard, not processed through a standard package. I wanted them to know that their questions mattered and their preferences would be respected.

If a traveler wanted to explore at a slower pace, we would listen.

If they were curious about local life rather than just famous monuments, we would take that interest seriously.

If shopping wasn't part of their plans, there would be no pressure to stop at shops.

Over the years, I’ve welcomed couples, families, solo travellers and groups of women. Each has their own expectations, questions and reasons for travelling.I’ve learned that good hospitality begins with listening and understanding what helps each person feel comfortable and supported.

For me, a successful journey is all about one where a traveler feels that their time was valued and their experience genuinely mattered…

Your Time, Your Choices.
No Shopping Pressure.

When you’ve travelled thousands of miles to visit India, your time should be spent on what matters to you—not on shopping stops you never asked for.

I’ve travelled enough myself to understand how important it is to feel that your time and choices are respected. That’s why we never take guests shopping just to earn commissions.

If you enjoy shopping, we’re happy to recommend places that suit your interests and budget. If you’d rather spend your time exploring, that’s absolutely fine too.

No compulsory stops. No pressure to buy. Just the freedom to enjoy your time in India the way you choose…

The Trust Behind Every
Recommendation.

Today, I welcome travellers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and beyond… many of whom find us through recommendations from people who have travelled with us.
To me, that means more than a new booking.
It means someone enjoyed their experience enough to put their own reputation on the line by recommending us to a friend, a family member, or another traveler just like you.
Honestly, I never take that lightly.

After 24+ years in tourism, I believe the little things matter most: listening carefully, keeping promises, and treating every traveler with honesty and respect. Our TripAdvisor reviews tell part of our story through the experiences of travelers who have spent time with us. But behind every review is a person who gave us an opportunity to be part of their journey. That’s something I remain grateful for.

Every recommendation reminds me that people don't just remember where they went. They remember how they were treated…

I Built Janu, But Its Heart
Belongs to the People Behind It

Today, I'm proud to work alongside a dedicated team that shares the values I've tried to uphold from the beginning: kindness, honesty, reliability and genuine hospitality.

Building Janu Private Tours has never been something I've done alone. Every person who helps welcome our guests contributes to the experience we want them to have.

I continue to travel, meet people and learn because I believe there's always something new to understand, both about the world and about the people exploring it.

I still believe that the way we treat people matters more than the promises we make. And I still believe that a guest should feel respected, not just simply served and overlooked.

Come as a Guest.
Leave as a Friend...

When I think about what I want Janu Private Tours to mean, I don’t think first about the number of journeys we’ve organized or the places our guests have visited.

I think about the relationships we’ve built along the way.

A traveller who arrived not knowing what to expect. A family who trusted us with their holiday. A guest who later recommended us to someone they cared about. Those are the moments that make this journey meaningful to me.

I started as a tuk-tuk driver in Jaipur, meeting people from places I had never been. Today, after travelling to more than 65 countries myself, I understand even more deeply how much a little kindness and trust can mean when you’re far from home.

For me, it has always been simple: come to India as a guest, explore with us as a friend, and leave with memories that last a lifetime…
