Description

Don’t just visit the desert. Live in it. This is our most immersive desert experience, created for travellers who want to slow down, disconnect from the ordinary and experience the Thar as a living landscape. Travel by camel, meet desert communities, spend time with shepherds, look out for desert wildlife, and sleep two nights beneath the open sky in two different locations, each deeper into the dunes than the last. For two nights there is no conventional hotel and no rush, only the changing desert, the movement of camels, freshly prepared food, evening fires and the extraordinary silence of the Thar.

Tour Highlights

  • Kuldhara and a natural oasis: Rajasthan’s famous abandoned village and an unexpected oasis in the desert.
  • Extended camel journey: Travel by camel away from roads and tourist routes.
  • Two sunsets: Watch the sun set from two different dune locations.
  • Two nights under the stars: Sleep in the open desert, with live-cooked dinners around the bonfire.

Day 1: Jaisalmer – Kuldhara – Natural Oasis – Into the Wilderness

Depart Jaisalmer at 2:00 PM by private vehicle. Visit Kuldhara, the abandoned village steeped in Rajasthan’s history and legends, then continue to a natural oasis, a surprising sight in the arid landscape. At the camel point, meet the local camel herders and begin your camel journey into the desert, moving slowly away from the roads towards the dunes. Arrive in time for sunset and watch the colours of the Thar change as the sun disappears. As evening falls, enjoy tea, coffee and snacks, followed by a live-cooked dinner over an open fire. Spend your first night sleeping beneath the stars, surrounded by the dunes.

Overnight: Desert Wilderness Camp beneath the stars (Meals: Evening tea, snacks and dinner)

Day 2: Living Desert & Deep Wilderness

Wake to the first light and enjoy a peaceful sunrise breakfast in the open desert. Continue by camel to a traditional desert village and explore it on foot, meeting local residents and learning about their way of life. Head into the surrounding landscape to observe shepherds with their animals. Stop for a freshly prepared lunch beneath a desert tree, with time to rest and enjoy the silence. In the afternoon, watch for wildlife such as desert deer and desert foxes as you travel deeper into a more remote part of the dunes. Watch another spectacular sunset from this secluded spot, followed by a live-cooked dinner and an evening around the bonfire. Spend a second night under the open sky, experiencing the desert in its simplest and most authentic form.

Overnight: Remote Desert Wilderness Camp beneath the stars (Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Day 3: Final Camel Ride – Jaisalmer

Wake to another peaceful desert morning and enjoy breakfast as the sun rises over the dunes. Take a final short camel ride through the surrounding dunes, then say goodbye to the camel herders. Return to Jaisalmer by jeep, arriving at around 11:00 AM.
